Jack Reid

August 5, 2004 – April 30, 2022

From a very young age, Jack was naturally kind and empathic. He was born and raised in New York City, and enjoyed extremely close relationships with his family and a wide group of friends. Simply put, Jack loved people. He felt deeply for others, especially those in need. He was a beloved friend, classmate, teammate, and student. Above all, Jack was an adored son and brother.

Jack enjoyed sports and was an avid fan of the New York Yankees, New York Giants and NASCAR. He was the first one to cheer on teammates and was consistently recognized for his leadership. Jack was very proud of his roles as Chairman of the Student Council at The Buckley School in New York City, and later as President of his house at The Lawrenceville School in Lawrenceville, New Jersey. He aspired to a life in public service helping others, and especially enjoyed mentoring and guiding younger children.

Jack wanted to inspire people to come together and be better versions of themselves. ‘We must unite’ was one of his catchphrases. Jack didn’t just say the words, he lived them every day. He acted with kindness and compassion, and believed that we must help those in need.

After more than a year of bullying and cruel behavior by his private school classmates, Jack’s life was tragically cut short when he died by suicide on April 30, 2022. Jack was only 17-years-old.

But that moment does not define him. What did he do while on this earth? How did he think and act, and what voice did he share? Jack would want his life to be remembered as he lived it - through kindness and compassion.

We honor him through our work at the Jack Reid Foundation.
